Yeah, both Ukyo and Genjuro had their fair share of retcons happen to them mainly for how popular they are. I think Samurai Shodown 5 since it was a prequel made several retcons to certain others, come to think about it.
Ukyo's still got the tuberculosis, and he still has the ladies chase after him.

I somehow managed to avoid MK11 Story Spoilers before actually getting to play through the story myself. I completed the story tonight and it's, well, it's pretty interesting for a couple of reasons that I won't detail for the sake of spoiling others. Just know that the advertised time fuckery is very real throughout lol.
So now that that's out of the way, I'm going to start on some of the challenges. Apparently some of the "Towers of Time" were so hard and/or broken that NRS is releasing a patch to better balance them (hopefully not a full on nerf but none of the silly broken BS like getting killed by stage conditions before your character can move). I've seen some complaining about "microtransactions" but it would seem that the only thing you can pay actual money for are tokens to buy palette swaps, all of which seem unlockable in-game through either the Krypt, AI Battle, or the challenge towers (which they're working to fix because yeah, some of that shit is broken and nowhere near "fun" or even "doable" in some cases). The actual things that effect gameplay (i.e. augments) and the three "Detailed" customizable bits for each character are also unlocked by playing through the different modes. If that stuff were locked behind actual $$$ purchases then yeah, I'd cry foul very loudly but literal color swaps that you can earn by playing the game anyway? I don't see the "injustice" there.

Yeah, those are the "skins" that are in the MK11 game right? Saying a character has "60 skins" total, basically means they have 60 costumes overall, but they're not really 'costumes' but more like palette swaps? Because someone online tabulated that it would cost $6,000 in real money to unlock EVERY everything in the game, but the vast majority of that would be paying outright for each skin of each character (which, as you said, could also be unlocked with play.)

Yeah, I think each character has four (maybe it's five) actually unique skins, and each one comes in a bunch of different color schemes. There's been some questionability of the math involved in that 6,000-odd-dollar amount.
This game's loot system can be a little obtuse, though. You get some items from towers, although it seems like you mostly win currencies that you then spend in the krypt by walking around and opening random chests...which may or may not contain items you can use on your guy, or may contain one-use buff items you can use to make towers more manageable. So you don't necessarily have a way to steer towards something you actually want.
All that said though, the fighting is slick as fuck. The Mortal Kombat games have come leaps and bounds with the last few. They've gone from "the game where the guys have cool gimmicks but the gameplay is kinda trash" to being my favorite fighting game out there, period. MKX was genuinely great, and they've made a couple tweaks with significant effects that improve on that system a fair bit, so I think it's safe to say, gameplay-wise, that it's the best game they've ever done.

*agreed it's also easily the best looking game in the series, with excellent character models and beautiful, active stages (that have great music too)
They definitely dodged up the unlocking aspect of things. I don't mind working to unlock things and even WELCOME it but needing RNG to help you advance through the Krypt is really crappy, as is the idea of randomized boxes (looking for a certain fatality/brutality? well, keep buying boxes with Koins.....you'll find that finisher.....eventually >_<). Thankfully, those koins aren't part of the microtransactions brouhaha but the payout for towers is relatively low considering that there are many hundreds of boxes requiring anywhere from 1,000 to 250,000 koins to open. Damn sure don't want everything the first week but I don't want it to be an Injustice 2 scenario where I've played the game for 6 months and am still missing things because RNG sucks (never did get Catwoman's Cat Call move >_>).

And I feel like the loot system is actually MORE unwieldy than Injustice's was, so I dunno. Like, I don't foresee feeling like I've really even fleshed out (let alone completed) most guys' finishers before the next game they do comes out.
Like, the costumes I don't mind as much, but I'd kinda like to unlock more of the fatalities, brutalities, etc. before I feel like I've seen the existing ones a hundred times each.
(By the way, my phone just suggested "eventualities" in that last sentence, and I think I just discovered a new "-ality" for netherrealm to use. You just let them die of old age. EVENTUALITY!)

The 6 thousand dollar thing was a clickbait as fuck lead, even Maximilian Dood called it that.
You can unlock everything and theyve determined that heart chests are guaranteed sets for specific characters based on which you open, donating 100k to the shrine is like guaranteed skin drop, etc.
It's still rough to get going, but saying 'you have to spend 6k!' is completely falsified.
It's piggy-backing the Battlefront 2 story when people clung to that 'you'd have to spend $$$ to get everything!' when you didnt, in any total way whatsoever, have to get everything. You could get your favorite load out high leveled in like 4 hours.

If there's a little bit of a method to getting stuff that's useful to you, I'm cool with that. It's not immediately evident, but I haven't had a chance to mess with it that much, either. Completing a character-specific tutorial the first time is a guaranteed skin unlock, too, and it seems to always be an actual different skin from the default ones and not just a color change, so that's cool. Plus those tutorials are just useful for learning about your fighter, and they get pretty in-depth, so it's a good idea to be doing them if you use that fighter consistently anyway.

Cool. I keep my status offline a lot but I'm generally around in the evenings before 10pm, so even if I'm not listed as online there's actually some chance that I am.
In regard to the latest patch, I'm glad that they made the towers a tad less ridiculous. I've actually gone through some without losing my mind out of frustration, which I'd done just the day before. They also bumped up the post-fight rewards which should make working to unlock boxes in the krypt a "bit" less tedious. The consolation gift was pretty awesome too. Still a tremendous koin/soul/heart grind to get EVERYTHING but I don't mind it as long as I'm having fun getting there and MK11's combat is pretty fun. Just wish the krypt boxes weren't so random outside of the heart boxes. *shrug*
