Could be real. Could be absolute BS. Such is the nature of "leaks." The assumption is that this isnt a 'leak' in the normal 'oh here's some potential info slip' and is more of a 'this was blatantly from their offices,' NDA-breaking ordeal.

Hmmm, so DOA6 has already been 'released' officially as of 5 days ago. Anybody play it yet?

I have it. The actual fighting is by far the smoothest that it's ever been and the animations MUCH much better this time around. Holds have been balanced so that while they still do substantial damage, they're not as incredibly OP as they were before in terms of raw damage (but if you counter someone's attack by throwing them into an exploding wall, it's still going to take at least 1/3 health off). The movement in the game is incredible, closer to Soul Calibur than any other 3D fighter I've seen. There's a new meter mechanic that I was very leery about when first announced but is actually a great addition to the game. Mission mode is likewise a great addition and imo, the music is the best its been since at least DOA4. Unfortunately, many players have been turned off by the grind to unlock extra character costumes. Unlike previous games where you unlocked costumes by doing arcade/survival/time attack ladders a set number of times with a character, in DOA6 you get a varying amount of in-game currency called "pattern points" (PP) that are applied towards unlocking a random costume (not just a random costume for the character you're using, a random costume from among ALL characters, including DLC characters that you might not actually own). Costumes cost anywhere between 100 and 1000 patterns to unlock. Initially, players were only getting 1-3 patterns for playing online matches and 10-30 patterns for completing an offline game mode like (all of them EXCEPT story mode gives you pattern points). Needless to say, people were PISSED at both the random factor of being able to unlock costumes and the monumental grind required to unlock some of the more expensive ones (which, incidentally, tend to be the most revealing; DOA gon DOA no matter what they say). The negative feedback was immediate and prominent and Koei-Tecmo announced that they'd resolve the low-pattern problem one day after release. Their solution was to give a x100 multiplier to the PP earned for an indeterminate amount of time, which they released on Monday, 3 days after the game debuted. They are also supposedly working on a way to eliminate the random factor of PP allotment, so if you beat arcade mode with Leifang, your award will be a PP allotment towards one of her costumes and not towards one of Raidou's, for example.
Another great negative for the game is that at launch, the ONLY online play available is ranked vs. There are no casual lobbies or other online modes available. They announced that they'd patch in lobbies this month about a week before release. What those lobbies will entail remains to be seen but the absence of this at launch has understandably rankled many fans of the series. Oh yeah, speaking of cutting corners, every character has exactly one intro and outro animation, though the lines do vary depending on opponent and K-T has resolved to implement more of these.....through patches in the future. Notice a theme?
My personal largest disappointment is one that I knew about well in advance and that's the deliberate omission of their tag mode. K-T cited memory as an issue for why they didn't implement the mode in DOA6 but I call rubbish on that. The mode has been in every DOA game since DOA2 (from 1999) and was somewhat distinctive for its implementation of character-specific team intros/outros and moves. Oddly enough, among the first DLC packs available on their outrageously priced season pass ($92 USD) is a set of "wrestling costumes" for certain characters but since there's no actual tag team wrestling mode in the game anymore, it's almost like a thumb in the eye >_>
It's a fun fighter in the ring and the characters are as varied and distinctive as ever but it feels incomplete, probably because in the ways mentioned above, it is.
Gameplay: 9.5
Graphics: 9 Audio: 8.5 Content: 5 Replay: 7
Overall: 39/50

Very thorough and helpful review, Marsh. Thanks 😀 I was definitely curious about this game and that answers a lot of questions. I tend to personally favor the KOF and SF games but I've had fun with DoA series before and would consider grabbing this down the line based on the smoothness of the animation and movement.
That's too bad about the lack of a tag mode though and the mess of unlocking characters attires.

I read where someone called MK11 'Military Kombat 11' and I cant unsee it.
While they obviously are loaded down on magic and whatnot, the 'normal' characters have gone super high-tech the past two games and it's like super noticeable here.

While they obviously are loaded down on magic and whatnot, the 'normal' characters have gone super high-tech the past two games and it's like super noticeable here. I don't mind it so much since they really started getting the train rolling on that in MK9, though I'd argue that Sonya, Kano, and Stryker really started in MK3. Cassie is.....a bit ridiculous with all of the guns, tazers, grenades, and the ever-present drone (hoping it doesn't have to be out ALL of the time). Still, it kind of makes sense for the character given what she does, who she's trained under, and for having a "distinctive" style. Her BFF Jacqui will also apparently be in the game and will undoubtedly feature more machine gun/rocket launcher action this time around.
This is a render of Jacqui in MK11
With the blue glow around her fists, I wonder if they'll utilize her kickboxing a bit more than the guns this time around? Maybe she gets force field shenanigans? Should be interesting to see, whenever they get around to an official reveal.

News coming soon
I've actually been caught up in Samurai Shodown hype more than MK11 at the moment. Been watching old EVO tournaments and have been going through my Samurai movie and anime collection the last week. Watched the live action Kenshin trilogy again, Ninja Scroll, Shigirui, Sword of the Stranger so far. Gotta go through Basilisk next.

I'm certainly interested in Samurai Shodown but I think MK is still the more anticipated game for me (I have a longer, deeper history with it than SamSho; get it out of the gutter xD). Being that as it may, I present to you the double reveal for Jacqui Briggs and Kotal Kahn both have come a LONG way since their debut in the last game
I like that Jacqui, whose fighting background was based on being a kickboxing champion, actually has some kickboxing moves this time, as well as a couple of MMA grapples and an ankle lock to boot! Combined with what appears to be a MUCH more diverse use of gadgetry this time around and she looks damn awesome to play. Much better design too imo.
Kotal Kahn. Holy damn. Just look at that ****! Dude is still slow as molasses but I'm guessing that he actually hits like a tank this time around (I felt that his damage was average in the last game and didn't justify using him because of the major attack speed disadvantage). Whatever his damage may be, boy does he look awesome doing it. It looks like they added to his sword moves and expanded on his "sacrificial light" abilities, including a nasty looking sawing attack after an impalement (was this actually in MKX? sounds familiar but I think it's new) and a throw that burns the opponent inside of the sunlight, respectively. Oh yeah, he can also turn into a f****** jaguar and maul the hell out of you! Dude is all about that Mayan imagery and I LOVE it!

Looks like Noob Saibot and Shang Tsung are getting revealed soon. Not only that but actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa who played Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat movie looks to be playing as him in the game now as well. He's teased it on his twitter but I don't know if he's in for sure.
I'm just happy Noob Saibot is finally back in. He and Sub-Zero were my mains in MK9.
EDIT: Oh hell yes.
This does look like Tagawa.
Sounds like him as well.
