Glad to see Cross Tag Battle made it this year, I've enjoyed that one immensely.

Funny how Dead or Alive 6 supposedly tried to cater to the FGC with an alleged de-emphasis on fanservice (it's still there, as it also is in the invited Soul Calibur VI) and the implementation of meter mechanics yet still didn't move the needle enough to get an invite to Evo. Unsurprising really but still a bit curious. I feel that nothing they can do will ever make it widely accepted by the competitive FGC and that's a damn shame because the actual fighting in the series is a lot of fun.

That trailer for Samurai Showdown was TANTALIZING. Cel-shaded samurai goodness!! ⚔ The impact looks really HEAVY which is perfect for this series. Looking forward to playing it! EVO Line-up is definitely pretty standard - not that it's a bad thing. I'm happy to see Samurai Shodown added but it's sad that KOF XIV didn't quite catch fire. Still, at least some SNK representation. I think the counter system in the series is definitely underrated and was one of the things that appealed to me from the start of the series. I played the original one on PSX and really enjoyed the countering and grappling.

Dont mean anything when your hired commentators are halfway to doing gravure on-stage and cause the streaming service staff to have a melt-down. Also, good lord Johnny has some great shit thematically.

^yeah, I had actually forgotten how they screwed themselves from being taken seriously with their ridiculous stunts a couple of weeks ago (even before the random gravure model thing, they'd apparently paused and drawn repeated attention to a suggestive mid-move powerbomb animation). Pretty much a deliberate middle finger to those types they said that they wanted to pander to.
on another note
HOLY CRAP, JOHNNY CAGE!
I really like how his normal moves look like things from an action movie and apparently one of his new abilities is to summon a past version of himself for an assist (I'm really starting to love MK's spacetime hax, lol). That fatility isn't gold, it's straight DIAMOND. Wow.

Johnny Cage looks absolutely fantastic. The stunt double, the camera flash, the call-back to his original fatality (and tweaked to fit his personality PERFECTLY)...simultaneously hilarious and badass. He just jumped to the top of my "excited to play as" list.

Playing with the action figure of himself as the victory pose and using the award to crack a downed opponent were the highlights for me. I laughed out loud at the award head crack.

Maybe
there's also this image out there
It doesn't have the recently revealed Johnny Cage but it does show the unrevealed Liu Kang, Frost, Erron Black, Jacqui Briggs, Kotal Kahn, and newcomers Cetrion and The Kollector.
Could be real. Could be absolute BS. Such is the nature of "leaks."

With a new Samurai Shodown on the way, NeoGeoNow is doing a retrospective on all the games in the series. They are currently two episodes in.
