It's all kind of screwed up but other things that occurred the past few months meant less traffic, locals switching jobs etc. so there kind of was a new normal already hitting before this. Now I'm sure most of those involved could have done with less bullshit, but at least now they're not wondering if they could have caught it from the winter visitors etc.
I don't really worry for myself. Older relatives but one in particular has done the "I didn't think I was going to make it home from the war so bring this shit on" etc. Similarly between my friends and other interests it's mostly the ones that have kids that I think about.

There's something surreal about someone wearing a surgical mask and gloves but asking for cigarettes.

Can't be too careful about what might get into their lungs, after all. Wouldn't wanna mess with that pure, cleansing tobacco.

Just got a wad of e-mail from amazon letting me know all my pre-orders are being delayed by a month or more including FFVII Remake. Persona 5 Royal and RE3 made it out just in time. May pick up FFVII digitally now.
At work now and nothing running. We were told a few machines might be going by noon, so they have us sweeping floors. Hoping they will have the option to start sending people home at some point because you can't sweep the same spot for 11 hours over and over.

Plenty of rumors going around but it seems somebody that worked in the next town over got sick. Naturally this got a calm and reasonable reaction in the usual places and I expect it to look like this by Friday: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySyId7TAEDU

Just had a customer go into a racist tirade against Muslims and China because I'm wearing a mask today. What the fuuuuuck.

The cabin fever is getting to people. NASCAR driver Kyle Larson dropped an N bomb on the virtual NASCAR race stream today.
No excuse for any of that noise.

You mean he can't claim it was a "heated gamer moment"? Why, however will he excuse his racism now?

Sponsors are taking these events very seriously despite their virtual nature. Another driver lost a sponsorship just for rage quitting. This guy could potentially lose his ride.

As they should, honestly.

I mean, they're kind of presenting these things as their actual product, albeit in a different form. It fully makes sense to expect the same conduct, sportsmanship-wise, out of their participants. They're still representing the company (NASCAR or whomever it might be).

Having some really slow shifts the last couple weeks. Most of the machines in our shop are only able to run a few hours at a time because we have a lack of product to build with. They've actually been good about giving people the option to leave early.
Had another run in with my old workplace 'problem' last week. Only one machine running, but they were only sending people home three at a time two hours apart. So we had quite a group of us all standing around the one working machine doing any loads as needed. Our shop has that new shirt tuck in policy now and often as I work my shirt tends to come partially untucked. At least I am tucking my shirt in because there are still people in the shop who don't tuck in at all.
So we're all standing around talking and the old shop manager comes walking passed us down on the walkway. Didn't think anything about it. He's not our shop supervisor anymore, technically not even supposed to be on the shop floor since he was transferred out of his last shop when the entire crew working under him had a mutiny against him for his behavior.
He sees my shirt partially untucked and yells at me in front of everyone 'Tuck your shirt in, I don't want to have to tell you again.' Pretty odd that he singled me out when a group of us are standing there including two guys who don't have their shirts tucked in at all. Well, I don't appreciate that tone. If you have to tell me again, how about we go out to the parking lot and you tell me again there? I think what infuriated him was that I just shrugged and turned back to the people I was talking to and haphazardly stuffed my shirt into my waistband.
Anyway, I get the word that I will be able to leave early in the next batch. I had intended to stay the full shift but if numbnuts is going to be skulking around the shop harassing me again I am just going to go home.
Next shift I hear he was looking for me after I had already left. I got told he was in the office having a very heated exchange with our line leaders. I absolutely figured he was trying to have one of them write me up for my shirt infraction. He's technically not allowed to write anyone up anymore and he's technically supposed to be sending out the line leaders to 'coach' us on any infractions as opposed to yelling at someone from across the shop floor.
Well my current line leader apparently knows about a lot of the harassing and bullying behavior I experienced at the hands of this guy, although I don't know how as I never mentioned a word of it to him. But on my first performance review with him he told me 'I don't agree with anything he wrote in your file, you're doing fine, we appreciate it, keep up the good work.' FIVE MINUTES. A five minute performance review. My performance reviews with asshole were anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes where he dissected every little thing I did and why it wasn't good enough.
I'm not even worried about possibly being written up. Perfect attendance and perfect conduct in the shop. Line leader said he's never had a single issue or complaint about me. I even joked if I get written up I could probably get myself some stress leave if I went to human resources. Company perks right up when they hear rumors of that. Already shorthanded they're terrified of losing a worker for any period of time right now, especially since they've laid off all the non-essential workers already.
Then I hear the rumor that he wasn't trying to get me written up, he was being told he had to come and apologize to me for unprofessional conduct. It's entirely possible someone who witnessed the event may have shot off a text message to the line leader about what had happened as it's general knowledge in the shop that he had me singled out for years when I first started.
Apparently management addressing a subordinate in a demeaning manner in front of the entire crew is grounds for an actionable complaint if filed with human resources. Being that he already has an established and verifiable pattern of harassing behavior toward me, it's likely he's now looking to cover his ass.
I expect when I go back into work Wednesday he is going to come and find me and either complain about my shirt or offer a reluctant non-apology or my line leader is going to come and find me and ask me about it, in which case I may let on I'm a little more perturbed about the incident than I am. Basically I think he was just stressed about the plant in the current state of the covid stuff and I just happened to be the stray dog that came across his path he could kick.
We actually got off at 3am last night shift, but they were letting people go home as early as 11pm. I only chose to stay to get my name bumped back up on the go home list, as leaving early opportunities are decided by a list. Once you leave early your name goes to the bottom of the list and anyone who stays gets moved up the list to be offered to go home early first the next time. Personally I am hoping for a go home early Thursday since I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off and now I'm at the top of the list.

That sounds ridiculous, although now that I think about it (disclaimer, I don't really watch or follow any eSports) I wouldn't be surprised that pro eSports leagues probably have some sort of rules discouraging rage-quitting, like additional punishments of some sort for quitting as opposed to just losing a match. (Am I right?)

Normally, this type of thing on streaming platforms happens without much consequence. The problem here is that those two actions in particular came during joint ventures between iracing.com and NASCAR to put on actual live events with real drivers and sponsors in virtual setting in order to provide creative entertainment.
Regardless of the implementation, these are professionals that not only represent the NASCAR brand, but their teams and sponsors as well.
The driver who said the slur in question (Kyle Larson) just got suspended by NASCAR for it, lost several big sponsors, and the backing of the manufacturer of his cars and has to go to sensitivity training. There is still serious business to be had even during these tough times.
