The police have now started handing out fines to people who are showing up to public parks. It's supposed to be $1000 for the first offense but so far they are in the $650 range and one lady even got her car towed from the park.
Our plant is running what they call 'shutdown simulations'. If a verified case is ever found to be in the plant they are pretty much hitting the kill switch and literally evacuating people like a real biohazard case. They are terrified of having the plant contaminated but also facing consequences from the government and public because they still haven't shut down.
There are many people on crews ignoring the cross contamination policy by showing up early to work before the previous crew has left. I'm hearing the rumor they may cut our hours back as the word going around is our Thursday night shift may only be eight hours instead of twelve. This gives a larger window for crews to shift change without cross contamination.

I suppose it varies but at least from our state list of essential services manufacturing/supply chain is on there.
Anyway this week's update was kind of middling. I suppose they might go partial and just offer food but that could be a "can't do this on the register so I gotta call so and so to go open that up and process it" which is like yeah, might as well have us sit there with a "hey look it's somebody, oh they just want a hot dog, never mind."

So who else will be avoiding social media and sketchy news sites on April 1st this year?
I'm just...really not in the mood to be extremely disappointed.

They are taking everyone's temperature as we punch in to work now. We are going to 11 hour shifts and 8 hour shifts at the end of our shift block. Fortunately we are still getting paid for full 12 hour shifts and getting a hourly ten percent hazard premium. When I came in tonight I heard that one guy got marched into the office because he's been saying this whole virus thing is a hoax and he's not following any of the new protocols. They wouldn't tell us who it was, but I'd like to know what moron to avoid.
EDIT: I guess starting next week they are giving us thermometers and they want each employee to take their own temperature before they come into work and submit it on a card they are giving us. We are also going to have to sign a paper saying we won't come in to work if we show any symptoms.

Okay yeah, that pretty much perfectly covers 2020 😲
That (stunning) high roundhouse kick from 2019 definitely made contact with a few of us too 😶
(Damn it, I wish I could enjoy that clip for the sheer awesomeness of it)

The official update could have been a bit more timely but it's in line with some stuff I've heard about our counterparts. Of course things could change.
Mixed seeing a couple updates in both the "I miss you" and "this probably isn't the right time or platform to really hash things out."

This isn't really a gripe, per se, but I also didn't want to triple post in the catch-all thread.
It's just, it really feels weird to know there's this big global pandemic going on, and yet your day-to-day life isn't all that different. Most of the impact I've felt has been in indirect ways.
Perhaps I should be grateful?

It's just, it really feels weird to know there's this big global pandemic going on, and yet your day-to-day life isn't all that different. Most of the impact I've felt has been in indirect ways. Perhaps I should be grateful? I don't know how it is in other parts of the world but here (Germany) most places where people gather are closed (restaurants, clubs, bars, theaters... etc.)
Everything else is encouraged to either close or have their employees work from home (That's me.) But there's not really an order enforcing that or anything. It's more of a "Hey, please be responsible" kind of thing.
There's also a soft order in effect where social gatherings of more than 2 people are no longer allowed (unless it's family or there's some other circumstances that warrant a bigger group such as work that requires assistance. There's many exceptions to this rule, really because there's an infinite number of circumstances.) Essentially, if it's avoidable don't be with more than one other person at any time.
Some far-right or misinformed foreign news sites report that this is a lockdown somehow. Or that the country has shut down. But not really. It's mostly business as usual for a lot of people just a bit different than before.

That's sorta how it is here.
Only "essential" businesses are open now, which means I still have a job. Not that I'm not grateful, but going to work and seeing our new cough shields are a reminder of why every day is suddenly Sunday slow.
Restaurants are down to only offering curbside pickup or, if applicable, delivery or drive-thru. I don't eat out a lot anyway so I mostly see the effects when I go grocery shopping.
We're also not really under orders to stay home, per se, so much as it's been strongly suggested. I've always been more of a homebody anyway, outside of obligations.
Meanwhile I'm just trying to live my life during something that feels more apocalyptic than Y2K or 2012 ever did. It's strange days.
