Isn't it amazing how much we disrupt stuff like that? Maybe we're the real virus.

Okay, I realize I was a little too happy in that last post considering the situation. Let me follow it up with an actual, unpopular opinion I tend to bitch about. I don't understand the popularity of Animal Crossing. People would rather do daily life stuff in a child-like atmosphere rather than do the actual stuff in real life. It just makes no sense to me. I like my games to have an overall general purpose other than do shit to do shit. Two years ago I never would have even looked at a game like Animal Crossing. After playing Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper I kinda got into these games and literally just bought Animal Crossing. I also like that the in game world seasons change in realtime with the real seasons of the year for some reason.

I like my games to have an overall general purpose other than do shit to do shit. That was always how I felt about it from a gameplay standpoint. It just kinda sounded like a second job to me. That said, I can see the appeal. Some of the character designs are cute. And thinking about it again, that argument sounds like the same thing people say about Guitar Hero or sports games.

So going into night shift last night was pretty much Do Lung bridge from Apocalypse Now.
No one knew what was going on or who was in charge, half the shops were closed down, we were running but half our machines were down during the night waiting for product to be made. They were letting people go home early but a lot stayed to keep the hours; because we suspect a shutdown could be coming very soon.
Our shifts have been adjusted to punching in at 7:15 and leaving at 6:45 so the day and night shift crews don't cross contaminate each other when one is arriving and one is leaving. They have parts of the plant sectioned off. I guess we're the only branch in North America still operating and I use that term loosely. The virus is supposed to be ramping up in our area soon and we literally have people on their phones all night watching infection tickers slowly going up in our area as more cases get confirmed.
Then I get told management may have screwed up my vacation hour count and there is one day of vacation I may not be getting paid for and it may even be counted as an absenteeism against me thus ruling me out of this year's perfect attendance bonus. And to top it all off, just like every other year I come back from vacation, we go from perfect spring time weather to a snow storm.
It's going to be a fun night on tonight's night shift. I suspect a pretty similar shift.
Edit: The good news is all meetings, overtime and call ins have been cancelled until further notice.

My place of work has shut down, as the UK is in near lockdown. I can only go out when I have to go shopping or when me and my family go out for a walk as a family unit.
On the plus side I get to spend 3 weeks of uninterrupted time with my daughters and get a few Fire Pro edits made! And possibly some e-fed stuff as well.

Yesterday the Ontario government released a list of "essential" businesses that can remain open. Everything else must close by midnight tonight or face fines. I'm a tradesman and my work is considered essential infrastructure, so I guess I'll still be working....and hopefully not just exposing myself to the virus.
Thankfully our legal cannabis dispensaries are also on the essential list lol

I've never seen a title of a thread that could be made even more accurate by a simple decimal point shift and the addition of the digits "2" and "0." Like holy shit - I didn't expect to wake up to a global plague this year.
(Figured we had to 2025, at least)
Not to bring things "up" in this thread, but I'm really glad hearing from all of you. The fact that people are posting is a good thing. Means we're doing well enough to be here. I really hope that keeps up. I hope everyone here, and those that matter to you, stay healthy and safe during this ๐ And if you have to go out, to work, or for any reason, that you can stay far removed from the threat. Deni - good to see you, man. Stay safe!!
Oh and Dawn's right - f*ck the weather right now for pulling a "Dusty finish" by teasing a rise in temperature to end winter then immediately starting Spring with snow โโ That's cold, Mother Nature. Literally cold.
Also - even though I know all the toilet paper hoarding is intended by most for the long term future, I just can't shake the unnerving sense that people have suddenly started shitting exponentially more these days. And that is an upsetting thought to add to all this. Like people are using their time home from work to really test their stomachs with untested recipes and the worst is occurring as a result. I really hope this Oregon Trail misadventure doesn't continue by adding dysentary. I don't want to have to ford a f'n septic tank river because Pot Belly Ferguson had an extra 8 hours to cook his Beef Pollonaise ๐คข

Still going here (considered essential but our list wonโt be out till next week in Alberta), and hand washing / personal protective equipment (gloves, face shields, stuff like that) is part of daily operation and always has been for us, do that aspect of this thing is nothing new. A lot of trades people I know out here have been laid off (cannabis dispensaries inventory has been decimated out here!๐) so I feel lucky to be working. One of the ladies I work with decided that she had the answer to the toilet paper thing. She thinks that people are hoarding it because whenever anyone sneezes or coughs these days, people instantly shit themselves. She could have a point. ๐

Yesterday's shift was a little more coordinated. Plant considers itself in Orange Alert right now. I guess a confirmed case would put it to red alert and shut us down. People have been reminding management about fines they could face for not shutting down if they knowingly expose employees to the virus. I still think it's likely we will get shut down at some point if the virus ramps up in our area as it's supposed to. The last two shifts they let people go home early, I even went home early at 4am once my machine built out its shift numbers. I have enough banked up that I won't be hurting over two weeks of down time if it should come to that and our employment insurance would reimburse us.
The rumor now is they are thinking of temporarily changing our shifts to five in a row, eight hour shifts, which no one wants. That makes... no sense, but I've long ago given up pretending rational logic applies to paper pushers who sit in offices all day. We have a number of people eligible for retirement in the plant who say they will likely leave if the plant goes down that route. I've also heard the rumor we have numerous employees who have refused to come in. Should be interesting to see what happens if management tries to punish them under these circumstances. Oh, we also got an internal memo that employees are supposed to use social media to put a positive spin out to the general public about how we're still operating our essential service to the public. EDIT: Last I heard our plant manager has been working from home.
At least the shifts aren't terribly difficult with things moving at such a slow pace, but there is a lot of coughing and sneezing going on. We were told not to run any of the industrial fans on our machines because they want to limit the air circulation, but one guy was feverish and actually turned his on. People are kinda asking him why he isn't at home if he's sick. Obviously money is the answer, but fuck, if I was sick and feverish I would be reporting that shit right then and there and getting sent home for two weeks no questions asked.
Management did screw up my vacation hours as well, but at least they confirmed it would not be held against my attendance record since it was their mistake. We still haven't received our bonus from last year.
I've been enjoying the drive to and from work though. Since everything is shut down here the roads are pretty much empty, schools say they are likely done for the year as well. Even the convenience store by my house is refusing to take hard cash, will be working shortened hours and completely closing on Sundays. I think the couple that owns it is a little nervous since they know where I work and know we are the only branch in North America not shut down, and I usually stop in before every shift to pick up energy drinks so I suspect they are secretly cursing me every time I come in.

Yeah, the empty roads do not suck on the morning commute! Itโs a little creepy, but yeah, barren roads (Barron Rhodes?!?! Dustyโs bastard shows up to challenge Cody for the title!) that feel like you could safely drive on in reverse the entire way on versus the usual Indy 500 stress fest! Lemonade out of lemons. ๐

Funny but also kind of annoying to see certain people slip back into their old ways. Had a long talk with a friend the other night kind of on that as she's really spooked with everything going on.

Four hours into the shift we were sent home because the prep shop is so undermanned right now they haven't been able to make enough product for us to build with for the rest of the shift. They closed every shop accept the prep shop and sent everyone home, hoping they can have enough stock for the night shift. We're going in tomorrow and may get a repeat of today and same again on Sunday. I heard the plant is also getting some serious pressure from the Canadian government for not shutting down. They're terrified of shutting down but also terrified of the virus getting in the plant. People were allowed to stay for the remaining 8 hours of the shift to clean if they want, but I don't have the patience for that kind've work anymore.

Tires and tire accessories.
EDIT: I think a shut down is a comin. Line leader called me today and let me know to come in to work tomorrow, but said likely by the end of the weekend the management will know if we are going down or not and he also mentioned they would be helping employees fill out necessary employment insurance forms if it comes to that. Did mention for every hour we work in the plant now we will also be getting a bit of a hazard pay bonus.

yeah I guess if transport and automotive industries are still up and running, they need tires. Most manufacturing places around me are already shut down if they don't directly support "essential services" as defined by the govt.
