Local news just said my plant would be closing down for two weeks, although I haven't heard anything from work yet. Good chance they may have forgotten about me since I've been on vacation for a month but I'll find out Monday when I'm supposed to go back anyway.

Guess whose city is going under a 30 day "stay home" order in 3 days?
>_>
It's going to be an interesting few weeks at my little neighborhood market. We've always gotten in 10 or so loaves of bread twice a week but last week we had to get some 4 out of 5 days. That's not to mention running out of ramen, various canned goods, milk, butter, and orange juice (we sell 3 kinds and we were "pretty" low when I left Friday evening) and I suspect we'll be out of eggs by the time I open on Monday morning. We never did get our frozen food in (our supplier was presumably out) and we got exactly 1/3 case of toilet paper out of the three that we ordered. The last one is particularly frustrating because we actually have people who buy their TP here regularly and they've been completely dicked over by loonies flipping out and hoarding the stuff. It's not like we can just go to COSTCO or SAM'S to replenish our stock because guess what, they're out of that shit too!
I shouldn't complain too loudly but it is frustrating that we just got "decimated" by purchases last week. No matter how great it is to sell out of stuff from a financial standpoint, I truly, truly, hate running out of stock. It's almost like I "failed" or something. At least I have a much better idea of what to expect in terms of ordering for the coming week.
Besides, being open, at least we shouldn't have to worry about being looted overnight but we'll have to remain more wary than normal (we always carry, fyi) of people getting desperate and trying to do something stupid, especially since we'll effectively be the only place to walk into in the neighborhood for a few weeks.
And I was so close to retiring too! xD

It really is weird to walk into a grocery store and see whole aisles that have practically been stripped bare. The only time I've seen anything like it was when my previous employer was being liquidated and closing.
Meanwhile, things have been particularly slow at my current convenience store job this week, despite us being across the street from said store, always open, and mostly stocked.

I’m assuming Costco down there is like here, they’re not taking any returns on high demand items, so maybe this toilet paper lunacy will end soon. I had to pick some up for my mother in law who doesn’t drive today, Walmart had a pallet that was mostly gone ten minutes after opening. I also grabbed a good ten boxes of children’s acetaminophen out of some dipshits cart (looked like he grabbed all of the ones on the shelf, at least twenty boxes) and returned them to their spot (I needed one for my little guy) since you can’t find them anywhere in the city (there was a report that acetaminophen should be used for fever pains if you’re infected with Voldemort-19, not ibuprofen which reportedly make symptoms worse...). I was also trying to find a digital thermometer for a neighbour of mine who is undergoing chemo right now since his crapped out, I’d have an easier time finding toilet paper right now, everyone is cleaned out.
I hope the parasites that hoard shit when people legit need items enjoy staring at their piles of stuff before that wonderful karmic LARIATOOOH turns them inside out! 🙂

Maybe the hoarders will be the first to go.
That'd be nice.
Yeah, I'm an asshole.

I remember hearing a news story the other day about some kids that saw people literally fighting over a pack of toilet paper and their main takeaway from that was that they should open a stand in their front yard and sell individual rolls for $2 apiece.

howdy gang! I haven't been terribly active on the boards recently, but I just wanted to check in and make sure everyone is doing ok in the wake of this COVID-19 pandemic. Pretty much everything is closed near me except the drug store, grocery store and some restaurants which are doing takeout orders only. There's a handful of cases in my city, including a doctor at one of our local hospitals, so people are a little on edge. I'm still working for now, but I fully expect my place of work to close or go to a skeleton crew within the next week or so meaning I'll be laid off...but it will be much easier to self isolate that way.
Everyone stay safe, be smart, and we'll make it through this shitty time.

Well even though the news reported my plant was closing down for two weeks, just found out we aren't. Although there has been talk about cutting our shifts down from 12 hours to 8 hours.
LOL, company is pulling a Gamestop and saying they have to stay open because they are an 'essential service'. Same thing they told us when we were told we were expected to make it in to work in blizzards, even if the police close the roads. When the roads are closed the trucks don't even ship out.
Hint: We're not an essential service. Plant manager just wants his numbers to look good for the head office. Although the news has reported other plants in our company around the world have shut down.

End of March and it's fuckin' snowing.
2020 can eat my whole ass, which there's precisely little of.

I would personally like to use a mulligan as well on this year, but I probably won't feel as strongly about it until my job stops paying me. Hope it doesn't come to that. :(
Regardless, I've never felt more energized with all this extra sleep and with all the quarantine stuff, the Earth appears to be breathing again.
Metropolitan pollution and smog is low. Bodies of water are clear. Animals are returning to some lost habitits. Earth is breathing. It's actually nice.

Okay, I realize I was a little too happy in that last post considering the situation. Let me follow it up with an actual, unpopular opinion I tend to bitch about.
I don't understand the popularity of Animal Crossing. People would rather do daily life stuff in a child-like atmosphere rather than do the actual stuff in real life. It just makes no sense to me. I like my games to have an overall general purpose other than do shit to do shit.

From what I've seen the animals returning to habitats has been debunked.

At least the fish are populating the Venice canals. The other animals I dunno.
