I was a little late to the party converting to 2.0. Now that I finally have, I see I got my work cut out for me now that edits can have FIVE voice clips instead of the original two. I'm absolutely thrilled about this since I like my wrestlers to be noisy and emotive, and now they won't be nearly so repetitive.
So what I'm curious about is this: How are all you guys making use of this 250% increase in voice slots?
Me, I've decided on a sort of standardized layout of the voices so that it's easy to pick the appropriate sound when attaching to moves in the moveset.
I've generally been doing this: 1) Hiss 2) Grunt 3) Groan 4) Shout 5) Catchphrase Where hisses are for weak strikes, grunts for heavier strikes, groans for heavy lifting and similar exertion, shouts for big moves and dramatic reversals (and submission moves on occassion), and catchphrases primarily tied to taunts. Anyone else doing something like this, or have other interesting ideas?

Personally, I find over use of voices annoying. I keep them to a limit. None of my edits use all 5 slots. The majority only use them just for taunts.
Maybe someday someone can write a mod where we can put our own voices in. Then I'll think about using the voices more.

I've always kept my guys mute to be honest, mainly because I wasnt sure how to implement the voice clips without it being a bit annoying. But I like the framework you're trying out- I may have to play around with that. Probably because I want a heel that screams "Eat Shit" for the entirety of the match (which would be decidedly NOT annoying haha) ...

Yeah, I definitely go light on the voice clips that actually say words. At first I was really excited about the phrases like "You dumbass!" and what not, but really if you hear it more than one time in a match you've heard it too often, so I like to tie those to a really rare taunt that only comes out in a specific scenario. (i.e. My main dude Super Bad Ass Sweet Daddy Jones does a C2C Superkick, followed by a point to the crowd and an "Ooooh yeah", and then does The Worm; it's the only time the "Oooooh yeah" comes out.)
But I absolutely love grunts and groans and hisses; if you watch a wrestling match nearly every punch and kick is accompanied by some sort of gasp or moan, just like every swing of the racket in a tennis match. And wrestlers have a way of crying out while hitting a big move, to sell how much strength they're exerting, how deep they're digging to get every last ounce of strength together for the big move. So for me, it adds a ton of realism to the matches to have a nice variety of noises for everyone to make, and for them to make noises often without sounding repetitive. I think between 1/3 and 1/2 of all my moves have some sort of noise along with them now, but I've lowered the volume of voices to sit lower in the mix amongst the crowd noise so it's just match ambience like everything else, and doesn't sound like each wrestler is individually miked.

Totally agree, and modifying the sound volume is a good idea. I think my hesitation is taking the time to go back and add it to everyone. I'll get to it eventually (along with using the individual move naming mod for everyone's signatures, and giving everyone themes), but now I am a little more curious to try out what others have been talking about.

Probably because I want a heel that screams "Eat Shit" for the entirety of the match (which would be decidedly NOT annoying haha) ... Stanford Bradley says hello! I generally use two to three clips on my boxers and three to four on my wrestlers. For the boxers, you just need a hiss for most punches and a grunt for the big stuff. For wrestlers, a hiss/light grunt for emphasis on some strikes, a larger grunt for lifting type moves, or things you want to highlight, a bigger, more personalized noise for finishers and big signatures and an extra one for taunts or rare moves. Some characters, like the aforementioned Stanford can make use out of all the slots, but it generally takes an outsized loudmouth for that.

Lots of different grunts and groans mostly, though I rarely use all five if I'm honest.

I always use all 5 since the update, and probably go overboard with the voices sometimes, honestly. I tend to do the same thing most people do, where I have a couple of hisses and grunts, followed by stuff mostly for taunt purposes, although I did make two intentionally annoying ones, where one screams insanely after every move, and another one with a heavy smoker gimmick makes constant use of Honma's ruined-ass voice. On that subject, Michael Elgin's voices mostly sound like crap, but his weirdly low-enthusiasm "OKAY BABY" works perfectly for an edit that's supposed to be a huge dipshit.

I've generally been doing this: 1) Hiss 2) Grunt 3) Groan 4) Shout 5) Catchphrase 6) Cigarette 😉 Where hisses are for weak strikes, grunts for heavier strikes, groans for heavy lifting and similar exertion, shouts for big moves and dramatic reversals (and submission moves on occassion), and catchphrases primarily tied to taunts. Anyone else doing something like this, or have other interesting ideas? I really like your system here. Especially how you divide the different strikes and give groans for lifting. I think I may start doing that a bit more. Right now, only one of my edits has all 5 voices - Geese. I pretty much gave him: 1) Voice 1 - weak strikes and weak impact moves (like the weak grapple osoto-gari) 2) Voice 2 - stronger moves in general 3) Voice 3 - special moves 4) Voice 4 - A voice just for his rare finisher Burning Hammer 5) Voice 5 - Taunts It's not that elegant a split in regards to the first three voices though. I think I will want to have 1 or 2 voices for taunts with the possibility of full phrases. I don't really like to see the edits saying full phrases when performing a move unless there's a significant delay in one of the moves (like a delayed powerbomb) or during a submission. So 1-2 voices for taunts, 1 voice for a finisher and/or main special, 1 voice for regular strikes, 1 voice for lifting moves. It takes a LONG time to fill an edit up with 5 voices but it's worth it. Geese's in ring character shot up exponentially to me with the 3 additional voices that he has now. You can do so many fun things with taunts in this game - like chaining them together - and the additional voices really help.

You ain't lying about it taking a long time to assign five voices to an edit, Geese man! After making this post I spent much of the day fiddling with voices, and I maybe finished five or six dudes. About a hundred to go.
A few random observations and opinions: - little moves like the side body knee lift really benefit from a hiss or grunt. - I really enjoy having heels shout and scream and chastise the opponent while applying basic holds like headlocks and camel clutches. Feels nice and heelish. - You gotta give voices to standing strikes pretty sparingly because they can get really repetitive really quickly. - I LOVE giving a grunt to the strike exchange move, a scream to the coup de grace taunt, and a big groan of exertion to the combo clincher. Makes for really lively exchanges. - I gave a cowboy character multiple levels of yips and yeehaws and am very proud of it.

This conversation has made me more interested in trying to use the voice slots. Anyone have an edit they could share as an example of how they implemented? I took a peak at Geese but curious to see others. I guess what I'm asking is... can I copy your homework?

It really depends on the edit for me. Usually I have a voice for light strikes and grapples, another for heavy strikes and grapples - Including Signatures and Finishers. The rest are used for character specific taunts - The "Yes!" Taunt usually has the "Yes!" or "Yeah!" voice attached to it, and I'll add a scream to the Stomping Appeal Taunt (The one that looks like they're throwing a tantrum) after a flash pin, depending on the character. I also use opposite gender voices for the "Sexy" gimmicks - One of the Female voices sounds like a moan, so I attached it to a male edit's Hip Swivel and it works perfectly. Conversely, I've attached the "Ohhhhhhhhhhh yeah!" Male voice to a Female edit with a similar gimmick - It emulates perverts in the crowd.
Things like that really add to an edit's gimmick or character.

Here's what I usually do:
Voice 1 is usually a hiss or barely audible grunt like a lot of you do with your edits.
Voice 2 is a little louder for them lifting and power moves
Voice 3 is Basically a loud outburst as either an insult, exhaustion of energy/strength, or to get the crowd involved (sadly not as great as it was in Returns when the crowd joined in)
Voice 4 and 5 are usually reserved for comedy or catchphrases or to express my disdain in the lack of english female voices.
