I bought Mortal Kombat 11 earlier today after spending several hours watching gameplay footage of players way above my skill level.
I've been looking for a fighting game for a while that has a dedicated block button since I'm absolutely horrid at the standard 2-D fighting game "use back to block" function. I decided to give MK another shot. I hated how sluggish MK9 was - I bought that years ago and immediately uninstalled it. MKX was fun for the short time I played it a few years ago, but it didn't have much of a roster that I liked.
I find it a bit funny that I can seemingly never have Baraka and Ermac in the same game together. To my knowledge, neither of them have been in a game together, not counting Armageddon. Baraka, Ermac and, to a slightly lesser extent, Frost are my favorite characters in the series.
My biggest complaint in the short amount of time I've played so far is the amount of guest characters in the game. This has always been an issue for me, so it's not really anything new.

SFV needs updating. DBFZ needs downloading. I am still keeping tabs on Strive and a couple other things.

I've always been a huge casual MK fan forever and 9 second's and even bought the DLC just to have Mileena again I really need to stop buying game's just because they're on sale.
I may have played MK11 a total of 4 hour's since I've had it. I just two days ago bought all the dlc for Tekken 7 except for Eliza. Why is she $4.99 anyway.
I'm trying to get into GGXR2 and I even bought a fight stick for Christmas to play fighting game's after being a lifetime pad (Hori FC) player.
I'm yet to even open the damn thing.🥺

I've had MK11 for two/three days now and I've played it more than I've played Tekken 7, and I've had that game for a few years. There's something about that series that I haven't been able to stick with it since Tekken 2. Tekken 3 was okay, but past that, I couldn't get into it. I guess it's because the Mishima and Kazama feud is featured heavily and I don't really care for a majority of them. I've had Soul Calibur VI for a while now too, but that hasn't stuck with me either - Might be because SCV sucked so much rotten eggs that I don't find it as fun as I used to. Many people don't care for the story of fighting games, but a lot of what keeps me interested in the cast and setting is the background story. I spent the better part of a few days perusing through the MK wiki and there's a lot more stuff I'm interested in there than I had originally thought. There's such a wealth of story and lore behind all the gratuitous violence that I never really tried to understand it all. Once again - I'm more interested in the "evil" and "morally grey" characters. "Why is Shao Khan the way that he is?" (I know why) or "Why are the Earthrealm characters fighting in this tournament?" (I know why). I always found it funny that Ermac began as a joke in one of the later SNES titles - I think it was UMK3, but I can't remember for certain. But yeah, his name is short for "Error Macro" and it stuck. The origin of names is one of the cooler things I like in fictional stories. Baraka doesn't seem like a very popular character, at least he wasn't among my friends group when I was younger - That sort of drew me to him. Everyone loved Liu Kang, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but not me. I also find Mileena to be strangely attractive - Like, her Takartan maw doesn't really creep me out, but the duality of beauty and beast is interesting to me. So yeah, there's a lot for me to discover and divulge. But anyways - I ended up picking up Kitana thinking I probably wouldn't like her at all, but boy, was I wrong. Give me a character that has a Flying Hip Attack of some sort and they'll be my character forever and always. That's just how it is. I learned how to do the Hip Attack Brutality and I've attempted to finish every match with it because I'm a dork that finds amusement in butt attacks violently annihilating opponents. I'm okay, I promise. Also, I'm not as clever as I think I am (or maybe I am):

Samurai Shodown season 3 DLC now up, game also received a new balancing patch and introduced the new Guard Crush mechanic in which a player constantly blocking will eventually get knocked off balance from making too many successive blocks.

Looks like that goofball in the corner of the screen got guard crushed.
Anyone play this game yet? Is it worth a look for an old fan?

^I'd say so. I blind-bought the game on a whim and I like it, even without playing the original series before.

I loved the old arcade games as a kid and these feel a lot like those. Mind you, it's been 20 or so years since I played a SamSho arcade cabinet but I really think this latest game is a good entry into the series. One word of caution though, apparently the online isn't that great and there aren't a lot of 1P modes. The gameplay is fun and engaging while the visuals are pretty great (particularly as an adaptation) but if Online is a big deal, you might want to wait for a sale. I certainly think it's worth trying regardless if you love the series.

It's probably for the best for EVO - they needed to re-brand themselves after last year.
Still, it's hard to wrap my head around that EVO is no longer independently owned by fans and is now owned by Sony. I remember how excited I was when I first heard about EVO. There just were not any tournaments in the US or in the world on that scale of numbers and consistent high level competition. I had been to Chinatown, NY and some East Coast tournaments (where I promptly got trounced) and heard about West Coast tournaments (like in Golfland in CA and in LV) but EVO truly was an evolution of the scene. From EVO moments with Daigo/Wong to the rise of a new generation like Tokido and Infiltration to the return of Daigo...it was just so fun to follow and watch from year to year.
I really wonder if they can recapture that authentic magic EVO had.
Apparently the SF5 tournament will be open to anyone but I'm not sure if you can sign up to compete without having paid PSN. I wouldn't last very long but it would be fun to try to qualify 😁

Some Developer interviews and footage regarding the upcoming SFV characters (yes, they're still releasing them lol)
In this video are sections showing some of the tweaks made to returning fighters Oro and Rose as well as footage of Rival Schools guest Akira.
I have to say that as weird as it is, I like the idea of Oro's turtle. He's always fought primarily with one hand anyway so why not have him doing something interesting with the off hand?

100% agree about Oro's turtle! A very interesting way to keep his fighting dynamic/limitation while adding to his character and storyline. It will also lend extra humor to when an Oro player is accused of "turtling" 😁
I like how Daigo is in Akira's super move. That is a nice touch. Akira was never one of my favorites from Rival Schools but I am happy to see that game get acknowledgement here as I loved it in the late 90's.
