^it would be him or Terry Bogard
I wouldn't rule out Geese Howard but he's already been a guest in another current fighting game
same for Mai, Kula, and Haohmaru but those three seem tailored for the games they're guesting in anyway
personally, I think Joe Higashi deserves the love his cartoonish personality would certainly fit Smash

That probably makes the most sense, although it depends on how historic they're trying to go. SNK does have a period from before they were even known for fighting games, although they probably wouldn't try to sell DLC based on games/characters that would be pretty obscure today.
There are definitely a few other KOF\Fatal Fury characters that might have the publicity they'd want, especially since Fatal Fury might be more associated with being on SNES. Terry Bogard would be a pretty good bet, and Geese might even be a possibility, too. Both of them are pretty visually distinct and both have that KOF association, as well.
EDIT: Marsh wrote in while I was typing lol. But yeah, I could see Terry being a front-runner, although Joe would fit the Smash style well.

The next Smash Character to be in Smash Ultimate (after Banjo) was revealed/leaked to be an SNK character. The only one I can think of thatd make it in would be Kyo from KOF to promote KOF15? What about one of the Metal Slug weenies? Or Brocken from World Hero’s!

itll likely be either:
Kyo from KOF (protagonist) Terry from FF (protagonist) Metal Slug from...Metal Slug (you get skins for Marco, Fio, Eri, Tarma, maaaybe the MS4 guys (Steven and Nadia) and the MS6 guys (Ralf and Clark, maybe Leona from MS7)
Iori, Joe, Geese, Mai, Kula aren't likely to be in since they're not the main protagonist of their games (like what all the other guest stars are), I doubt Haohmaru would be in. They'll all become spirits though most likely.

Athena could be interesting since she both predates SNK's fighting games and is a KoF mainstay (not to mention has a ton of alt costumes) but my money's on it either being Kyo or Terry.
Or the guy from Crystalis. Swerve~

I think SNK may look to their side-scrolling catalog. Metal Slug, Sengoku, etc. I'm kind of feeling Metal Slug.
I can't see most of the The King of Fighters/Fatal Fury/Art of Fighting world fighters fitting in well to Smash.
But if SNK is doing this for Samurai Shodown and KOF exposure, then yeah, probably a KOF character.
A few Smash fighters have counters and command grabs but I don't know. I'd be surprised to see someone as technically deep as Geese or even someone like Kyo. Kyo's original version may work (with fireballs) but I can't see him doing R.E.D. kicks and flame combos. Terry Bogard also just feels different than Smash would accommodate. Mai is popular but uh, I'm not sure if her vibe works for Nintendo LOL.
Of course, I'm hoping for Geese just to see how his ultra smash will represent his Raging Storm!
And, most of all, I'm hoping this gambit will get SNK more mainstream attention for Samurai Shodown and the new KOF!

I dunno, if Bayonetta can make it in Smash then why not the originator of jiggle physics herself?
And I mean, it's not like they couldn't tone down her assets if they wanted. After all, look at Snake.

LOL, Smash fans are very observant 😁
And we've come a long way from Snake hiding his derriere behind boxes as he snuck down a hallway!
But yeah, Nintendo would probably "nerf" Mai's characteristics a little to make her Nintendo friendly.

That also might be less a "Nintendo" thing and more of a "no longer presided over by Hideo Kojima who has an unhealthy obsession with Snake's ass" thing.

True, but there was apparently a similar discussion about Zero Suit Samus becoming less buxom so it could still be a Nintendo thing. Or heck, it's probably both.

I’d fall off of my Canadian dogsled if Nintendo okayed Mai, my bet is Terry, either that or the metal slug POW or Mars People!

Now I 10000000% want Mars People! Pretty good as far as timing goes too. I saw a tweet by SNK today with a Mars People plush available! I can't find the tweet but here is the page: www.snk-corp.co.jp/snktgs2019/And the Mars Peoples 👽

Seriously though, can’t you already see Mr Game and Watch vs Wii Fit Trainer vs Duck Hunt vs Mars People?!
I love the Mars People plushie! I also dig #39, Ryo on his bike keychain! That would be pretty bad ass!
I think 80’s era world heavyweight champ Ric Flair should be a smash dlc character, and his stage should be Space Mountain BABY! Wooooo! His projectile attacks could include $600 lizard shoes, a title strap whip, and flying Arn Anderson’s. and his victory pose could be him dancing all night, WOOOO, and dancing a little longer!
