Lol, and down again. PS4 disconnected from the network almost at the exact same time of day it did yesterday.

Well PSN assistance has been telling me I need to go into my router and open up some ports. What I don't understand is how my console has never had a problem logging on for years until just now and I haven't made any changes to settings that might cause things to screw up. I know the main issue is on their end at this point. I may wait another day to see if it resolves itself and if not try opening some ports on my router.

Yeah, you are right to be confused about their advice. I wouldn't mess with your ports right now either.
It doesn't seem like this is a problem on your end at all. The fact that this is sudden and wasn't a result of any changes supports that. I think PSN assistance may be throwing stuff on the wall to see what sticks or covering their own asses because they don't know what else to say.
Also, is it possible that your ISP may have changed things without them telling you or even knowing themselves?
I didn't sign up for online gaming on PSN for PS4 so I don't know how things would be for me. But back in the PS3 days, I had an infamous problem connecting with other gamers as a result of my NAT3 connection being unstable or partially blocekd or whatever the terminology was. This didn't affect me so much with SF4 (which you and I used to play together quite a few times) but my Red Dead connection was very unreliable. Took me like 10 tries to connect to a game. However, even with that, I never had a problem signing onto PSN itself.
So I don't see how opening up your ports would fix a problem that didn't exist even 2 days ago, not to mention for years. Either this is entirely on Sony's end and they can't figure it out or your ISP did something (intentionally or not). It really sucks that this is going on so I hope it gets resolved soon.

Yeah I say that is probably on them

Port forwarding is still a thing: portforward.com/playstation-4/That said I would think it would have come up before that. It's been radio silence the past couple days even though some things are in motion. I kind of wish some of those dominoes would fall.

Yeah, port forwarding is my next option. I've already taken a look into the router settings for port forwarding but still haven't figured out how to do it. I notice I am not even able to log in to PSN through the web browser on my computer unless I turn my VPN on, which is really weird, so I am starting to think my VPN might have done something even though it has worked fine for years.
EDIT: Nope, just tried on other computers in the house the VPN is not even on and they can't log in to the website either.
EDIT: And opening the ports that Sony recommended didn't work either. Now it's wait a few days, as some people have said the problem fixed itself after a week, then call the ISP.
EDIT: Based on my twitter conversations with other people affected, this is definitely something on Sony's end. People in Australia and the UK reporting the same issue happening starting as far back as July and up into August. We don't all share the same ISP so that's another clue.

Okay, tried connecting again today and was able to. Keeping my fingers crossed as I was able to connect once before when it first happened, but after 5 hours it stopped again. Problem definitely wasn't on my end and I think myself and a few other people may have kicked up enough of a stink at Sony's AskPlaystation twitter account over this weekend to at least get someone looking into the issue even though they just kept telling us to open ports and contact our ISP's. I looked more into the error code and discovered SCE_NP_WEBAPI_SERVER_ERROR_OAUTH_HTTP_STATUS_CODE_406_NOT_ACCEPTABLE. So it's a 406 Not Acceptable code. I found this article airbrake.io/blog/http-errors/406-not-acceptable about the error and it indicates it could be either a client or server problem. The fact that it's happening to people in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK tells me it's not our ISPs at fault. Hopefully Sony has this resolved now.
EDIT: And web browser is letting me sign in again without the need of my VPN to circumvent the problem.

The past couple days had their moments. But today. Today was just "fuck you, I don't care what you planned" mixed with "fuck you for caring, I'm going to go back to the same piece of shit anyway."

Have I mentioned that moving is a pain? Because it is.

Sorry to hear that it's stressful. Moving sucks, especially in the summer, and when you have to vacate ASAP.
I hope that the process is completed soon and that you find a better place if you haven't already 😎

Thanks for the well wishes. We did find a place but have had a number of setbacks over the preceding months. I'll elaborate once the dust settles.

I'm really glad that you found a place but sorry for additional setbacks (to what was a setback to begin with). You've had a very rough few months and I hope the dust settles soon and leaves you all in a good place.

I'm pretty sure it's part of a larger outage apparently related to last week and there's not really much that can be done here. That said they may still have to wave the dead chicken over it to be officially official. Actually just got a message from a colleague that seemingly everything is slow or otherwise screwed up in the area right now.

Still playing catchup after Monday's debacle. Down one great person although I'm glad she more or less got another year in and more time with her daughter.
The rest not so much. Derpy's being a statue at a really shitty time and the other one has also apparently gone quiet.
