If you want proof about the importance of things like fresh air, exercise, and food, I was feeling in relatively better spirits about an hour later despite the reality of everything. |

One bad thing about having a job where you work by yourself is you can't leave until your relief gets there, no matter how ridiculously late they are.

Allfather knows I've done my share of dumb things over the years but the sheer level of foolishness I've seen just from this past weekend... Thanos' idea of 50% may well have been too optimistic.

go to gas station to buy beer, they require masks now.
dude goes in with no mask and waits in line.
cashier tells him he needs a mask.
dude starts huffing and puffing and throwing a fit about how he shouldn't have to wear a mask.
he eventually puts on the mask and is grumbling under his breathe.

I love the way my company is taking the pandemic seriously enough to finally make mask-wearing a strongly worded suggestion but not so seriously that they'll reinstate the "appreciation" pay they took away last month.

Nothing like having your long weekend off tainted by being On Call on Sunday. Company has started up the on call system again now that Covid is nearly completely out of our area. I am literally offering $50 a pop now to anyone at work who wants to take my name off the on call list for that month. In the last eight years I've taken one sick day and probably two storm days and I missed one On Call because the guy doing the on call sheet waited to the last minute and I didn't know I was on it.
The extra slap in the face is when your cutoff time for being On Call is either 8am or 8pm and they will literally call within minutes of the cutoff time. One guy I work with was called at 8:00 exactly. They told him to come in and he said no because it was 8:00. They tried to give him a written warning at work for not showing up but he had the 8:00 time stamp on his phone and he went to HR, showed them and they tore up his written warning.
The best is when you're on call and they call after 8:00 and try and talk you into coming in anyway. All they'll hear in response from me is *click*.

I'm trying to prepare for the next few weeks and the empty platitudes don't help. It's not even really about my own sense of self-preservation.
It's so ______ can get back to the normal horrors of being an ER nurse.
It's so _______ can stomach leaving her little girl with family while she's punching in orders and warming up snacks.
It's so ________ can be my frenemy then go home to her kids.
etc. etc.

While out and about earlier I saw a house flying a flag that was a combined American/confederate flag with some kind of message on it (probably "don't tread on me"). That just seems wrong.
