Third'ing "The Toys that Made us" series and the specific He-Man episode. I loved that! โ
I was like the target audience for that show. I am thankful that I got to be a kid for the 80's action cartoons (specifically He-Man and ThunderCats) as well as an older kid for the Nintendo and Super Nintendo rollouts. It was a fun time to immerse yourself in fun and help some companies make a killing ๐
I've always considered e-fed style to be a continuation of my storytelling with He-Man action figures.
Do yourself a favor and find the 2002 series. I actually got the 2-season DVD 5-10 years back for like $15.
I keep reading over this and seeing how Netflix missed a huge opportunity.
I'm imagining your vision of He-Man and the way a reboot could have been.
Just complete badass fighting with an 80's metal soundtrack ๐
Seriously, just imagine Skeletor riding on his panther taking out suckas while "Number of the Beast" played or He-Man facing down the evil Horde as "The Four Horseman" played. So much potential.
I don't "hate" what's there but through 5 episodes it's probably at a 5/10 for me. Here's hoping it finishes stronger than it starts.
5/10 is a huge missed opportunity given how long the series was waiting in the wings to make a comeback. Like it's one thing if one individual season kinda faltered but having Season 1 hit a 5/10 is really disappointing. Heck, a mediocre season without strong emotions is just a huge miss.
I've heard that the dialogue is an issue. People seem torn on Mark Hamill playing the Joker playing Skeletor. I wonder if there's a little "Robot Chicken" Skeletor thrown in there as well.
So if Mark Hamill was doing Joker as Skeletor, was SMG doing Buffy as Teela?
I heard the action is really well done and that doesn't surprise me given the trailer. The action was one of the things I was most excited about as it seemed really fluid and well handled.
I'm so interested in just how I'll feel about this that I do want to check it out. at the same time, I have so many things to watch that it's hard to spend that time on something I think may piss me off.

It has been fun reading these last few posts. Iโve only seen a few of the original series, the vaunted 2002 one slipped right under my radar, and I was thinking about checking out the new one.

Iโve been a fan of the concept for as long as I can remember, and how can you not be, a bunch of jacked dudes with giant weapons smashing each other into paste, a skull faced mr universe trying to take over the world?

Well, there are obviously more episodes to come for the new Masters of the Universe cartoon. I don't mind certain changes as much as some people on the internet but I dislike the writing of the story. I actually have no problem with the story itself but the dialogue is tough to stomach and not in that nostalgic way that hearkens to the original series from the 80s; this is just bad writing. And it's a shame because I like the story and I like the action (what relatively little of it there is but I guess there was always the slow build to the head bashing) but the lines really bring it down. Also, I loved Mark Hamill as the Joker. It's one of the greatest villain performances in any medium. I do NOT like Mark Hamill as Skeletor doing Joker's voice (and personality). Seriously, what the motherfuck were they thinking with that? Likewise, I think Sarah Michelle Gellar was miscast as Teela. Nth pretty much hit it on the head. Even with better writing, her voice would still be wrong for the character.
